Chiral dynamics of hadrons

Based on N_C expansion, dynamical chiral symmetry breaking, and explicit chiral symmetry

  the Lagrangian of chiral field theory of mesons is constructed. The formalism of the meson theory

  is presented. It shows that this theory reproduces all the successes of previous study and answers

  all the puzzles in meson physics. A new symmetry breaking mechanism is revealed from this theory.

Title:  The Hopf invariant one problem via K-theory

Abstract:  I previously sketched Adams' original approach to the Hopf invariant one problem via secondary operations in singular cohomology. In this talk, I will present the simpler solution using Adams operations in K-theory.

Title:  Compressible Navier-Stokes equations with temperature dependent dissipation

Abstract:  From its physical origin, the viscosity and heat conductivity coe!cients in compressible fluids depend on absolute temperature through power laws. The mathematical theory on the well-posedness and regularity on this setting is widely open. I will report some recent progress on this direction, with emphasis on the lower bound of temperature, and global existence of solutions in one or multiple dimensions. The relation between thermodynamics laws and Naiver-Stokes equations will also be discussed. This talk is based on joint works with Weizhe Zhang.

Standing up for the Mountains: Authors and Activists Against Mountaintop Removal Mining

 [See Attached Advertisement] At this book event, University of Kentucky authors will present their recent books about mountaintop removal mining's threat to treasured landscapes and Appalachian communities. Erik Reece and James J. Krupa will discuss their book, The Embattled Wilderness: The Natural and Human History of Robinson Forest and the Fight for Its Future, and Shannon Elizabeth Bell will discuss her book, Our Roots Run Deep as Ironweed: Appalachian Women and the Fight for Environmental Justice.

Following the talks, Appalachian activists Teri Blanton and Donetta Blankenship will speak about the ways the coal industry has affected their lives and communities, and what they are doing to fight back.

Reception with light refreshments and book signing will conclude the event.
