Join GARC after the Weekly Writing & Work Group for an ice cream social where you will have the opportunity to have some sweet treats and to get to know other grads interested in App Studies! The Appalachian Center will provide the ice cream; you just need to bring yourself (and a friend if you'd like!). We will meet at the Appalachian Center (624 Maxwelton Ct.) (see the event flyer attached below).
GARC meetings are meetings of graduate students working on planning events, opportunities, and other graduate-related things. We typically meet once a month. These meetings are open to any member of GARC and occur in a hybrid format. We will meet in the Appalachian Center Annex Conference Room (641 S. Limestone; entrance is in the back by the gravel lot beside the Appalachian Center and via Zoom).

This group met weekly last year at the Appalachian Center for a 'drop-in' block where grads could stop by and work on writing projects, emails, course prep, etc. with other grads to encourage solidarity and build community amongst those with App Studies interests. This semester's first meeting will occur on Thursday, September 7th from 11-1 pm in the Appalachian Center Annex (and via Zoom). Michelle and Allen are running the group and are excited to have you join them! At least one of them will be there during the entire period; you are welcome to drop in for any part of that time. We will have coffee, tea, and water available. Come write or work with fellow App Studies friends!
This reading group centered on Appalachia-based and/ or Appalachian-written novels resumes with Silas House's Lark Ascending - please see this helpful Google sheet for which pages we will be reading for the 11th! If you can't make the 11th, the next meeting will be on Monday, September 25th at the same time, and will be every other Monday from 7-8 pm the rest of the semester. We will meet in the Appalachian Center Annex Conference Room (641 S. Limestone; entrance is in the back by the gravel lot beside the Appalachian Center) and via Zoom (please email Shelby Roberts (shelbyroberts@uky.edu) if you have any questions!).
