What: Just Us Moms Performing, featuring young mothers in the Step By Step mentoring program, which is celebrating its 20th Anniversary.

When: 6 p.m. May 16. Reception following the performance.

Where: The Roc Center at Immanuel Baptist Church, 3100 Tates Creek Rd.

Cost: Free. Donations welcome.

First Annual Postdoctoral Research Symposium

The Society of Postdoctoral Scholars at the University of Kentucky is hosting a symposium to feature the work of postdoctoral scholars in Kentucky. The event will feature a keynote presentation by UK’s Vice President for Research Dr. Lisa Cassis as well as several oral presentations and a poster session. The symposium will allow for the exchange of ideas across a broad range of fields, and abstract submissions are welcome from any discipline. Postdocs from Kentucky are especially encouraged to submit abstracts for oral presentations and poster presentations. Graduate students are also welcome to present posters. The event is open to anyone interested.

There is no charge to present or attend.  Food and drinks for lunch and coffee breaks will be provided.

The oral presentation submission deadline is May 20, 2015. The poster presentation submission deadline is June 5, 2015.

MRS Seminar: Investigation of Historical Japanese Book Binding and Paper from the Edo Period

Kazoo Kioki, a Conservation Librarian and Liaison Librarian for Asian Studies, will give a seminar on the investigation of historical Japanese book binding and paper making from the Edo period. Dr. Kioki has researched book bindings and paper and has experimented replicating results.  This seminar will summarize techniques and her results.  This seminar will be hosted by the UK Materials Research Society, and all are welcome to attend.
