Please join the UK Appalachian Center at an Appalachian Forum with Dr. Fran Ansley, Professor Emeritus of law at the University of Tennessee Knoxville on Wednesday, November 5, 2014.  Dr. Ansley will give a talk entitled Telescoping Movements, Telescoping Time:  Five Decades of Looking for the Labor Movement  through an Appalachian Lens in the Niles Gallery from 3:30 to 5 p.m.  This is a part of the Appalachian Forum Speaker Series on Civil Rights, Labor and Environmental Movements in Appalachia.  The event is free and open to the public.

Please join the UK Appalachian Center for an evening with Mimi Pickering as part of our Appalachain Forum Series on Appalachian Labor, Civil Rights, and Environmental Movements.  This is a free and public screening of "Anne Braden: Southern Patriot" followed by a discussion of the film with the Director and Producer of the film, Mimi Pickering.  The event will be held in Memorial Hall from 7:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. on Thursday, October 2, 2014.

Join the UK Appalachian Center at RCARS in Jackson, KY for our 2nd annual Pickin' Time Event on Saturday, November 1, 2014!  This is a great event for learning about culture through various musical workshops, cutting board workshops, a local craft market, a visual arts showcase, farmer's market, and much more.  Please, join the UK Appalachian Center for our SWAP (Sharing Work on Appalachia In Progress) Meeting with Dr. William Schumann, Director of the Center for Appalachian Studies, Appalachian State University.  This will be held in Room 206 of the Student Center from 1-2:30 p.m., and Dr. Schumann’s talk is entitled: “Engaging in Sustainability in Neoliberal Contact Zones.”  This is a free event and open to the public; lunch is provided.  

Join the U.K. Appalachian Center for the International Youth Water Justice Summit at Memorial Hall on Saturday, July 12th, 2014 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.  This event is free and open to the public; all ages are welcome to attend (children under the age of 16 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian). Lunch will be provided. There will be presentations and activities related to water justice locally, regionally, and globally throughout the day. Water justice refers to fair and inclusive distribution and stewardship of water resources. This is an opportunity to think about how you are connected to everyone in the world through water, from the make-up of the human body to the watersheds providing us with drinking water to the river, ocean, and weather systems that keep water circulating.
