The Role of the Principal Investigator

For each sponsored award, it is customary to designate as Principal Investigator (PI) one person who bears the ultimate responsibility for academic decisions as well as for financial, administrative, and compliance matters relating to the project. Other individuals with significant involvement may be listed as either "Co-Principal Investigator" (Co-PI) or "Key Personnel."

It is the responsibility of the PI to ensure that the research conducted and reported is of the highest standards of excellence and consistent with the mission, functions, and objectives of the University.
