Types of Advisng in the College of Arts and Sciences

  • On-Call Advising:

We offer on-call advising for A&S students who have faculty advisors and for students who have a primary major in another college.  

On-call advising takes place Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 9am-12pm and 1pm-3:30pm.  On Tuesday, On Call Advising takes place from 10:00am-12pm and 1pm-3:30pm.  Due to COVID-19, on-call advising in be handled remotely.  Please call 859-257-8712 or email to be connected with the on-call advisor.  

  • Professional Academic Advising:

Students who have earned 0-59 earned hours (freshman and sophomore), or are declare in the following majors, Economics, International Studies, Mathematical Economics, Political Science, and Topical Studies, will be advised by a professional advisor. Your assigned Academic Advisor is listed in your MyUK account in the Plan and Register for Courses area. 

Here is how to make an appointment with your assigned professional academic advisor:

  • Go to MyUK
  • Click on MyInfo
  • Select: MyAppointments
  • Choose: College of Arts & Sciences
  • Select: General Advising/ Priority Advising
  • Select the appointment time that works for you

  • Faculty Advising:

Students with 60+ hours (junior and senior) will be advised by a faculty member in the department of their primary major.  Your assigned Academic Advisor is listed in your MyUK account in the Plan and Register for Courses area.  To make an appointment with your faculty advisor, pleae contact them directly using your @uky email address.

Students whose primary or secondary major is HSP will be assigned a faculty advisor from programs Faculty of Record. Students are required to meet with their HSP advisor at least once per semester, prior to registering for classes for the subsequent semester. 


How to Prepare For Your Advising Appointment

  • Run an MyGPS Audit on MyUK
  • Make a list of courses/requirements you are considering taking the following semester
  • Write down all of your questions
  • Be prepared to talk about your goals, academic progress, and any problems you might be experiencing in classes


In addition to advising, the A&S Advising Office provides assistance in completing following:

  • Petitions and Project Graduate petitions
  • Retro-active withdrawals
  • Post-midterm withdrawals 
  • Reinstatements after a second suspension 
  • Suspension process and probation 
  • Suspension appeals
  • Bankruptcy 
  • Course substitutions for students with learning disabilities 
  • Good standing notices
