S.T.E.M

Success in STEM disciplines is critical to the future of the U.S. to remain an economic and technological leader in the 21st century. The College of Arts & Sciences recognizes the need to facilitate students’ success across the Commonwealth in the STEM disciplines of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.

The college is planning a multi-faceted approach to improving the Commonwealth’s STEM-ready workforce and will expand its efforts to help ensure that all UK students receive world-class math and science preparation. This will mean that the college will begin to partner with the state’s K-12 system so that all entering students are STEM ready. A&S STEM departments will have funds available to conduct workshops for local teachers and support science-related events at local elementary, middle, and high schools. The college will begin offering online STEM coursework aimed at high school students, particularly for those students who do not have access to AP STEM coursework. This project will also serve students who want to hone their STEM-related degree, such as pre-medicine, pre-pharmacy, STEM K-12 education, etc. The purpose of our effort is to grow the Commonwealth’s future leaders in STEM disciplines, and serve the next generation in their personal professional goals.
